Since opening our doors in July 1997, Quarry Lake Inn has been welcoming guests for 25 years! We celebrate this important milestone and share the memories going back :
Looking at the changes that have occurred at the Quarry, we are reminded of the wasteland that once existed here. When the Inn was first built, in 1997, the old municipal Quarry was filled with underground water, but the lake surrounds were a wilderness.
This all changed when the developers of the Quarry Estate, decided to lay out housing and business properties in an organized and environmentally friendly manner.
Its our 25 Year anniversary!
This month we celebrate our 25th anniversary, having opened our doors to our first guests in July 1997!
Back in the 1890s, the old Municipal Quarry was excavated for stone for the ballast of East London’s tramways. When the Quarry closed in the 1950s, it then filled up with clean underground water to become a lake.
Fish were introduced, while geese, kingfishers, and a host of other birds made their homes here, and the lake became a little nature reserve within the city.

We are happy to share the great news that Quarry Lake Inn has largely returned to busy pre-Covid times!
For this, we are extremely grateful, and we are overjoyed to welcome new and returning guests.
We are also very thrilled to have a small and steady trickle of international guests.
The year got off to a tremendous start with renewed confidence in business and leisure travelers alike.

We have enjoyed excellent rains in the Eastern Cape, leaving our gardens lush and green, and filling the rainwater tanks at Quarry Lake Inn, to the brim.
With the warmer weather and holiday feeling in the air, our guests have been enjoying the pool and on-site gym.
